Journey from Los Lagos to Esquel
It was a travelling day and supposed to be uneventful, time consuming .
Time consuming in that I had a 4 hour wait
Booking early or Booking last minute. Always a dilemma and it’s only in hindsight that you get it right .
Andy mentioned that when he was in El Calafate in January it was a town that people only came to see the glazier and move . Hostels and buses were all full and you had to book in advance.
Well I was going south and the busbud app showed a bus to Esquel at 1630 which I booked arriving at 2130.
Unfortunately this was too late for the cheaper accommodation in Esquel.
Arriving in the terminal in Esquel I found another company Marca that was leaving at 1200…. In 5 minutes . Okay it’s going to cost another $12 but I’d get there 4 hours earlier and I don’t have to wait at the terminal .
The journey was on the famous ruta 40 which runs from Northern Argentina to Southern Argentina . It’s a two lane road , just enough for two buses .
It’s like the road in the Black Mountain from Brynaman to Llangadog but loooonger and straighter and turns like tro gwcw.
We had to slow down when crossing streams or creeks (arroyo) , when some of the paved road had come apart or when another was overtaking heading straight towards our coach.
Long and straight . The environment has changed with the lakes replaced by flat lands .
The bus is half full , and provides usb connection. Very comfortable.
El bolson had been mentioned a few times but it seems it’s a developed tourist town with German connection but plenty of activities . Now somewhat Bohemian town .
As we passed through it I felt that it was a good job I was moving to Esquel . Looked a bit battered.
Decided to continue to Esquel.
And it seems a pleasant town ,
70,000 population.
A good day .
