Day 4 - Arriving in San Martín de los Andes
–25km elevation 317m 106 bpm
- Lago Machonico
A steady climb to start with then onto dirt tracks for the 15 km descent, which takes us to the entrance of the city of San Martin de los Andes.
We do stop at a mirador to take some mate ( love the ritual ) and to take in the view of the lake and the city . The peacefulness is broken by a tour of Americans ( backroads) some in the minibus and others on bike . It's nice to have an English conversation by they talk so loud ( we are from all over the United States lows Texas Oklahoma) which gives rise to a titter amongst my group and they mimick ( we are from Texas and Iowa ) .

Again quite a dangerous route on the ruta 40 and we need to cycle within the white line , very gravelly and potholes
Into San Martín we did ride to conclude this 7 lakes journey . It's a good feeling and we take photos together at the San Martín sign onthe waterfront . The centre of town is another 3/4 blocks away .
Another dormitorio where there are 4 beds .myself and Daniel are here ( room for the hombres ) . Plus one other man . The ladies are in their own room .
We go out different ways for an explore around San Msrtin .
Breakfast is pan and mermelada and I take my first coffee for 5 days . Black with sugar. Delicious.
My back is hurting again today and I don't think I could have cycled another day . I was wondering if I had taken the right decision in taking the bus from San Martín to Villa la Angostura. Although it's a bigger town it's a bit samey street by street. Taxi from hostel to terminal dr omnibus.
So took the 1500 bus out the same as Daniel and family .
It's been an excellent trip .
