Day 13 - Moving from San Martín de Los Andes to Villa La Angostura

The bus leaves at 1500 , hostel checkout is 1000. Need to make sure I have battery in mobile to show driver my QR code . Argentinas carry an identity card that enables them to move between Chile Uruguay and Brazil. 






To go to USA they need a visa but so do the British which is easy to get online . Not so with Argentinas they have to pass an interview . 


Autobús = ómnibus. 


I spend a few hours in one of the parks , very peaceful , locals mingling . Shops open in the morning close in the afternoon and open again early evening . This needs to be done as my back hurts and I don't think another day in the saddle would have been possible .


I do enjoy the atmosphere in terminals like these . A mixture of local people , Argentinian tourists , and really not many English speaking crowd . But a peaceful atmosphere.

The 115 km is pretty uneventful. I have a window seat (butaca) . Mountains covered in trees and nearer to the town you had wooden dwellings ( the amber coloured wood ) . But kms of fenced i wildness. 










There's always a higher mountain up ahead . How many photos can I / should I take ? It's nice that the place is not littered with white camper vans . A car can be loaded up with a tent and cooking accessories not a huge 6 / 8 man tent but a simple 2/3 berth tent . 


You get to see a lot from a bus window , a lot are sleeping. Looks like we cycled this road.  It's good paving but wow not much room for cyclists !!!!! 


Coaches can overtake on this single carriageway. So there is a line of cars , camioneta ( a 4x4) and us. Oh that's nice the lorry has pulled in to let the traffic through. 


The drivers are not aggressive here , they give a toot   , let the cyclists know and pass . Dani was surprised by this remark , maybe in this part of the tourist world they accept it . I know it's different cities Bs As as well . 


Well that backfired !! Laundry in the hostel description but they only mean that they wash the bed linen themselves. So had to find a place to launder two weeks of clothes including all my cycling gear . 









Actually it wasn't a problem, easily found a place in town that stayed open till 2100. They apologised that washing band drying it won't be ready till 0700 tomorrow morning . Perfect 1500 arp= £4.50 well spent . 


Evening meal …. A burger . Nice and simple .

3 days–60km , elevation 737 , 146 bpm .  This was the toughest day .  Lago Escondido  Lago Villarino Lago Faulkner We leave the Lago Correntoso / Espejo Chico area to continue travelling along the route to the next Posada Cordillerana accommodation, all located in the Lago Hermoso.  Accidentes - they do happen . Celeste came off her bike just small gravel inside the white took the wheel down . I normally keep 2/3 bike lengths away so avoided any collision. Dina had to break hard but fair does as a 13 year she dusted herself down and within 5 minutes we were off again . The beauty of cycling in a support group.  Similarly I took a fall going over a wooden bridge with gaps ( reminded me of the bridge myself and Elisa crossed as    we hiked to hydro electric and Machu Pichu .  Talking of that Diego pointed out the rock that had Eva Person's face looking upwards .  This was a tough day of cycling . The man on the right seems to have the neckerchief and headwear of traditional days . A beret seems popular too  A typical shop it could be bar restaurant clothes shop whatever . The red wooden sides to building g . Majority made of wooden not a lot of stone .  Local wearing a beret .  Nice atmosphere, clean low lights , quiet about 2330 at night   or   The lake at San Martín about 7 blocks from the centre . The sun was hot , it would burn but there’s a chill in the air . Lane must be cold - not many splashing around !  View of San Martín from our final mirador as we were drinking mate .  This was a must have food suggested by my group . It’s called choripán, basically chorizo in a roll . Too much bread for me but great with mustard or with chimichurri.  Warning at the hostel .  Lots of old cars about .
