Capel Seion - Esquel
It was Gwenaël and Faye that put me onto this place . A Welsh chapel , community hall and a new activity building right in the centre of Esquel .
.
To gain access to the chapel , community hall and new activity building I communicated with Silvia Williams via whatsapp who was delighted to host me . She speaks Welsh so clear using words that I would neglect and put the English equivalent .
The hall is rented out to local Spanish but the Welsh influence is seen all around . Phrases on the wall , ddraig go h,
Silvia loves singing in Welsh and has some favourites. Calon lan is sung on special occasions and sospan fach when the rugby is on .
This place is right i el centro of Esquel . Proud links in the town to Wales .
.
There are Welsh evening classes and a room for ysgol meithryn kids ( little ones ). A good stock of Welsh books and bibles .
They hold a Sunday service twice a month with preachers coming from Gaiman .
Eisteddfods are held in October .
Silvia Williams has reverted and keeps her Welsh maiden name as her husband has passed .
Silvia is so passionate about Wales , being Welsh , language food it brought a tear to my eye . And to hers .
Reminded me that in Oxford Street London there is a Welsh chapel. Pockets of communities away from Wales trying to keep Welshness alive .
